April 17, 2023 (Iqaluit, NU) – Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (“Baffinland”) today announced that Baffinland and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) will hold their Annual Project Review Forum (APRF) in Pond Inlet from May 9th – 11th. The public forum is an opportunity for the company and the QIA to discuss project-related issues directly with the five North Baffin communities.
This will be the first in-person APRF since the start of the pandemic, and we are excited for the opportunity to engage and collaborate with our Inuit stakeholders. During the three-day forum, representatives from Baffinland and the QIA will present updates on employment and training, environmental monitoring programs, mine operations and more. Delegates will include an Elder, a Youth and QIA Community Directors from each of the five communities. They will provide feedback and recommendations for project improvement.
On the final night of the APRF, Baffinland will host a County Feast at the Community Hall for delegates and community members. Once the forum is over, Baffinland and QIA will work together to compile the comments and recommendations into a public report. It will be available this summer and will be posted on our website at Baffinland.com. The APRF is a requirement under the Mary River Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement.
