Baffinland to Begin Staged Return of Nunavummiut Employees to Work at the Mary River Mine Starting the Week of March 7

4 March 2022

MARY RIVER, NU, March 4, 2022 – Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (“Baffinland” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that it plans to begin returning its Nunavummiut employees and contractors to work at the Mary River Mine starting the week of March 7, 2022. The return will be completed in stages over a period of several weeks to ensure a safe and orderly transition.

All Nunavummiut employees and contractors returning to site are, at minimum, double vaccinated, as are all Baffinland personnel at the Mary River Mine. Many employees and contractors have also taken their booster shots, which are provided at site, and the Company is strongly encouraging all of its personnel to get their third shot.

Baffinland is in regular consultation with the Nunavut Public Health Office, and it will continue to maintain rigorous COVID-19 testing protocols at site and adjust its precautionary protocols as appropriate to protect the safety and health of its workforce and communities.

“Throughout the pandemic, Baffinland, in regular consultation with infectious disease experts, has been applying rigorous controls at its operations which have proven to be very effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19,” said Brian Penney, CEO of Baffinland. “As we learn to manage COVID-19 and Nunavut begins to open up again, we believe the time is right to bring our Nunavummiut employees back to site. They are valued members of our team whose presence significantly enhances our operation. We look forward to welcoming them back.”
