Yellowknife, NT – Diavik Diamond Mines (2012) Inc., operator of the Diavik Diamond Mine, is pleased to announce $30,000 in funding for the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Yellowknife Marine Rescue Unit. The funding will assist the local coast guard auxiliary in their efforts to upgrade their search and rescue watercraft.
The upgraded vessel, which will include transfer of self-righting equipment and engines, along with state of the art navigation, will cost approximately $140,000. In addition to Diavik, funding support for the new vessel includes a donation through the Gary Robinson Memorial Fund, a fund administered by the Yellowknife Community Foundation, and other fundraising initiatives and partnerships with local organizations including Tli Cho Landtran which is donating the transportation.
“At Diavik, we support safety at work, at home and in the community,” said Diavik Diamond Mines (2012) Inc. President Marc Cameron. “The Coast Guard Auxiliary is very much like our mine site emergency response team, always there to help if needed and with this in mind, we are pleased to support this initiative. It is also very pleasing to see one of our key business partners, Tli Cho Landtran assisting in this project,” he added.
