New Nunavut General Manager Hired

Yellowknife, NT (February 25, 2022) The NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines is pleased to announce the hiring of a new General Manager – Nunavut, based in its Iqaluit office.

Priya Sharma brings a breadth of experience and enthusiasm that will be a welcomed addition to the Chamber team. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Priya joins the Chamber of Mines in Iqaluit following seven years experience as an educator, including the past three years teaching in Nunavut. Her background in Global Development and Political Sciences has taken her across the globe to places like India and Turkey to work with non-profit groups such as Oxfam International.

Priya has a passion for community development and capacity building, developed during her past work within the non-profit sector, particularly in youth mentorship and the promotion of creative arts programs and working with organizations like the BC Sports Hall of Fame and I-Lead Youth for Change. In addition to teaching in Turkey and British Columbia, Priya has worked as a schoolteacher in both Qikiqtani and the Kivalliq regions of Nunavut, providing her with first-hand experience of the impacts and opportunities our industry provides for Nunavut's youth. Priya has fostered positive roots and relationships within Nunavut and is looking forward to advocating and collaborating with our industry members and community and government stakeholders.

Priya will officially assume the position on March 7. She replaces Terry Dobbin who held the position from 2017 until his retirement this past December. We are very thankful for Terry’s contributions and wish him well in his future endeavours.
