Message to Diavik Partners – March 19, 2020

We continue to closely monitor the impacts of COVID-19 across Canada. As a reflection of the increased number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Canada, Diavik has increased its internal response as a precautionary step.

Out of an abundance of caution and putting the health and safety of our people and our communities first, Diavik is making arrangements to proactively reduce exposure of COVID-19 to isolated and remote NWT and west Kitikmeot communities and minimise the potential strain on public health infrastructure. As of today, we are putting employees who reside in identified isolated and remote northern communities on paid leave until April 14. Diavik leadership will continually assess the situation and these precautionary measures. All affected employees and contractors have been notified by their leaders.

The health and safety of our people and communities always comes first. Our approach has been informed by advice from the government and medical authorities to protect the health and wellbeing of our employees and communities.

We are committed to maintaining full production and supporting our workforce to maintain employment, as well as keeping our employees and communities safe from this pandemic, by implementing necessary precautionary measures against the risk of COVID-19.

If employees have questions, we suggest that they speak directly with their supervisor to understand the additional measures that we are taking to protect our workforce.

If you have questions, please email us at Diavikcommunities@riotinto.com or call (867) 669-6500.
