Eight students complete Work Ready program in Arctic Bay

14 March 2019

From February 11, 2019 to February 15, 2019, eight students in Arctic Bay completed the Baffinland and Qikiqtani Inuit Association Work Ready program. The program is offered through the Qikiqtani Skills and Training for Employment Partnership.
During the week-long program, students learned practical skills about what it’s like to work in a mine, including the importance of health and safety in a heavy industrial setting. The program also provided practical skills for Inuit to adapt to the unique challenges of a fly-in-fly-out, two-week-on-two-weeks-off working rotation.
The students of the program will now pursue additional training and employment opportunities, including the popular Heavy Equipment Operator training program also offered through the Qikiqtani Skills and Training for Employment Partnership.
The next Work Ready program is currently underway in Pond Inlet.
