Uranium Mining in Nunavut - The NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines reports that the Government of Nunavut has responded to a Petition tabled in the spring legislature calling for a Public Inquiry under the Public Inquiries Act, regarding the wisdom of allowing uranium mining in Nunavut. The Government in its response stated that it believes that the existing Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) regulatory process is a comprehensive, inclusive and effective means of evaluating mining projects in Nunavut on a case by case basis and has decided that it will not hold a public inquiry. DARNLEY BAY RESOURCES BEGINS DRILLING ITS BASE METALS TARGETS - Darnley Bay Resources Limited is pleased to announce that Northtech Drilling Ltd. commenced drilling Darnley Bay’s first 2010 base metals target on August 28. The drill had been mobilized from the Parry Peninsula 90 km to the northwest where the first phase of drilling for kimberlite pipes, under the joint venture with Diadem Resources Ltd., was completed last week.

statement in response to the Government of Nunavut (GN)’s decision not to hold a public inquiry on the question of whether uranium mining should take place in Nunavut: This was an opportunity for the GN to take a leadership role in ensuring a meaningful consultation took place on this important question. “The GN is obviously
not interested in Nunavummiut fully participating in decision making processes,” states Sandra Inutiq, the chair of Nunavummiut Makitagunarningit.
