Uranium interest and demand is increasing.
Demand for uranium is increasing worldwide as demand for clean nuclear power increases. More countries today are building new reactors to supply this clean energy, and this is helping increase uranium exploration.
The Chamber of Mines has created this site to help people better understand uranium exploration and mining.

- All uranium being mined in Canada is used only for production of clean electricity around the world.
- The peaceful use of Canadian uranium is enforced by the Government of Canada through United Nations treaties.
- Clean electricity generated from Canadian uranium avoids 700 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually worldwide, contributing to a healthier planet.
- Saskatchewan is the top uranium producer in Canada, and the second largest supplier in the world.
- Half of the workforce at Saskatchewan uranium operations is from northern Saskatchewan communities and about 44% is Aboriginal.
- More than $75 million is earned annually by northern residents working at Saskatchewan uranium mines.
- AREVA and Cameco are leading companies that have been safely exploring and mining uranium in Saskatchewan for more than 40 years.
- Canada’s uranium mines are among the safest in Canada and the world.
- Land, air and water around Canadian uranium mines is monitored and protected not only by the mining companies and by many government agencies, but by independent monitoring agencies working for northern communities.
- AREVA has already safely reclaimed the Cluff Lake mine.
